Tomorrow is Groundhog Day. The day we wait for a groundhog to tell us how much longer our winter is going to be! I plan to do some activities with the kids to celebrate. I think some of the crafts I put together are a little young for them but I know they will participate so they can spend time with their mom😉. The paper groundhog I created is such a simple activity for younger kids and can be made with items you most likely have lying around your house. See below for the instructions.
Materials Needed:
Brown paper
white paper
black paper
scissors
glue
I created a template in Cricut Design Space to create our groundhogs but you can easily cut these out without it. First step will be to create two large hearts with your brown paper. When you draw them on your piece of paper, you want to make sure to connect them. (see image below) This will keep them connected once you've cut them out and allow you to fold them.

You will also need to draw two circles on your white paper and two circles on your black paper. You will want the circles on the black paper to be slightly smaller than the white circles. These are Phil's eyes.
Now draw two rectangles on the white paper as well as a small heart on your black paper and a medium sized heart on the brown paper.
This is what you should have:

Once you've drawn out all of your shapes go ahead and cut them out with your scissors. The medium sized brown heart will need to be folded in half and then cut in half along the fold line.
Last step is to glue all of the pieces where they belong. I have included a short video below to show the assembly.
There you go-a paper groundhog! How cute is he?!?
I also plan to make this adorable pompom groundhog with the kids. It was created by The Joys of Boys. It really is so adorable! You can find the instructions for it here.
If you're looking for another easy activity to keep the kids busy try a word search! I found this cute Groundhog Day word search on Pinterest. It is a free printable so check it out. We will be ending our Groundhog Day celebration by watching the one and only Groundhog Day with Bill Murray. I have actually never seen it (which my husband thinks is absurd) so I am looking forward to it.
I would love to see what you come up with so please share any creations you make on our Facebook page! Also, what do you think-shadow or no shadow?? Here's my guess...
